Raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Gaby’s father bought him a saxophone when he was 12. He loved it. During his lessons though, he asked his teacher what “that song in the background is.”

It was the bass.

Two years later, Gaby went to a rehearsal at school to play some Rolling Stones. One of the students pulled out an instrument that sounded “big and low,” and Gaby realized it was the bass. He asked to see it, took it into a corner, and 10 minutes later he was playing it. After he got home, he begged his dad for some money to buy a bass, and by that night he’d bought the cheapest he could find. He played it for hours and hours that first night, and he’s never looked back.

Caesar Lemos, the Latin guitarist currently touring with Yanni and the Voices, asked around Miami for a recommendation for a bass player for this tour. Gaby was referred to him time and time again. Though they hadn’t met, they knew each other by name.

About working with Yanni, Gaby says, “It's a very special experience for me to work with Yanni; he's one of a kind. His talent, his awareness of all around him, not only the music but everything else that makes the show to become as great as it is! His details on every single issue are totally incredible; from the kind of shoes a singer wears to how much I adjust one of the knobs on my bass guitar. Everything is so professional, and the people are so personal – it is wonderful.”

Gaby has written and produced a solo album, titled “Low Registers” (2006). During his career, he has focused on jazz, Latin, Brazilian, rock, pop and funk. When he’s not on the road, he does studio sessions and has a home studio.

Gaby began his career at the age of 17 performing with local bands in clubs and festivals around Venezuela. In 1990, he moved to Florida. He attended the University of Miami, receiving a B.A. in studio music and jazz performance. Since graduation, he has toured, recorded and/or performed with various artists like:
- Yanni
- Tito Puente
- Claudio Roditi
