About 45 minutes ago, I got an email stating that as a fan club member, I could download *just* the bonus track ("In the Mirror" w/ Nathan & Chloe) from the Yanni Voices EP. I already have the other 4 pieces from this EP and so of course, I was interested in the bonus track.
However, when I click on the link in that email, I'm taken to a page asking me for my credit card number. In other words, I'm expected to buy the song without ever having heard a sample? Sure, I'm familiar with the original version and I adore it! But how do I know I'll also love the updated version? To be honest, I haven't been so "in love" with the other re-worked Yanni classics I've heard recently. Yeah, I like 2 of them but the others... not so much. Quite honestly, I'm still wary of this whole pop/vocal remake world Yanni has entered into. Am I willing to give all of it a listen when it's released? SURE! Will I like it all? I'm pretty certain I won't. Just being completely honest...
I buy nearly all of my music from digital stores these days and I buy A LOT of it! I'm also seriously picky about what I purchase. I buy absolutely NOTHING blindly (or is it "deafly" in the case of music) these days. The Web offers the technology for audio previews (and you offer previews for the rest of this EP) so why are you asking fan club members to just buy this "bonus song" blindly? If you value us enough to offer us the opportunity to purchase a piece not being offered to non-fan-club members, why do you not value us enough to give us the opportunity to preview the track and say, "You know, I really don't like this particular tune enough to buy it."?
Yeah I know; it's only $.99; hardly enough to break anyone's bank account BUT it's the principal of the thing! Let US decide whether or not we feel it's worth spending that buck! THAT is the point, isn't it? The decision on whether or not to purchase the piece should be left to the individual listener, IMO. Some of us will love it and some will not. Taste in music will always be highly-subjective.
My apologies if this post comes off as "negative". I don't mean for it to sound that way but I will be honest and say that I feel like I'm being "roped" into buying something I may not actually want. I have no respect for this type of sales tactic and I have never seen it used by another artist.
Not buying it. I'll wait until I'm offered the opportunity to hear a sample. Maybe the Web has spoiled me in that regard but with the amount of money I spend on music per year, I have to be picky. I'm a music JUNKIE and buy literally hundreds of tracks per year. I only purchase what I really love (or at least like a lot)!
