Porcelain Heart © 2005

Standing upon the mantle of my porcelain heart
Engulfing memories to renderings of Mozart
Centered around your delicate embrace
Never knowing the pain I was to face

Watching in slow motion the descent
My porcelain heart's tragic lament
Now remains the empty places once full
Pre-eminence of memories forever pull

Tugging at the pieces only time can mend
Strength to strength until the final end
The flame continues dancing its delicate dance
Within the amber wine forever its romance

Setting sun invites the darkness of night
Yet awaits the next dawning's glorious light
Given time enough my porcelain heart will heal
Regretting never revealing fully how I feel

Attempting to cement the tiny shards to new
Simply fool passive glances of those who knew
Grief must be allowed time's forces to complete
Healing from the inside out sorrow's defeat

Emerging from the depths of regret
Words to be spoken now to forget
We once walked upon the high places
Where porcelain hearts have no faces

Can my porcelain heart ever feel again
Much more than I call only friend

Herema, Your poem is lovely. I feel your thoughts as I too sometimes, especially of late have a porcelain heart - easily broken, hard to mend.

Very nice work Herema. You captured much with this work, and I too share Patricia's thoughts, from it. Thanks for sharing it.

tnx everyone.....it is one from my first book and I have enjoyed reading it over and over even more so than when I wrote it. I forget most of what I have written because I move away from it onto the next writing. It is fun to go back and read them again.

yes, rima, it does seem that Yanni's music draws talented people together. He inspires my work and I love to listen to his softer music when I write.

tnx Sherry....I needed that. Smiler

Something I am trying to work on is my sense of humor...esp in my writing. I love to be reading some serious detective book and suddenly something happens unexpectantly and I am laughing my head off. I envy writers who can do that. I think it is called, spontaneity! Learning to relax and write with more spontaneity is something I am learning to do lately and it is a whole new world. I even laugh later when I proof something that I forgot that I injected something unexpected.

What an adventure it is.......I can see why anyone would love creating music, painting pictures, writing for a living. It is so fulfilling in ways that even money cannot begin to replace.

uh...oh....I rambled again.

hugs and snuggles

As we release in our own way, we are each blest within. There is so much turmoil, in just living, trying to help others, that I myself need to interject more humor into my life as well. Each one of us has our own way of releasing what is inside, or the expression of and from each, but each I think important to the whole, and necessary.

You go girl, and much love, many blessings extended to you.

tnx Dara...

"...releasing what is inside is very important, but sometimes holding it in is wise, as well. Sometimes we can get passed silently much better than crying it out for the world to see our true pain. That may sound a little confusing. But for those who can express their inner feelings...love, fear, pain, heartache, sorrow, joy, rejoicing...in any form of the arts can do so in a way that only the artist can fully understand and appreciate. To translate such music, poetry, art or dance would be like giving the "audience" a deflated balloon. Sometimes an artist's "release" can be a coded message to themselves hiding to the world the "turmoil" deep within. It gives release without apology."©
