Tides of Change ©
Life is ever changing, rarely predictable, can be exhilarating, or seemingly tragic. I have often been reminded of this, when visiting the bluffs above the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There is a scenic viewing area, as well as a long walking path. The sights of water below, a sunset at night, and the mountains are filled with God's beauty. However, recently while walking the path, part of the walking trail had been pushed back further behind the steep bluff for safety, as weather had taken its toll on the bluff, causing part of it wear away and fall down to the shoreline below. This was a diversion, but I still remained grateful that although there was a detour, I was able to enjoy the new trail, while basking in the changes in scenery. Such is a good example of how life can change at any moment in time.
Life is very short, so after six decades, I treat each day with reverence, wonder and gratefulness. Each morning is a new adventure; rather than fearing or spending too much time with the unknown factors of what may happen, I look forward to the positive ways I can use each moment of time in my life. I have found that fear or apprehension does nothing to change what may happen. It actually may serve as a bigger hurdle, disallowing a person to look at all of the possibilities.
I have also found that if I dwell on my own past history, reminiscing about the tragedies, trauma or drama, I am hindering my own present and future. What happened, is gone forever, cannot be repeated, repaired or rectified. I have chosen solely to learn from what took place, whether from one moment ago or if from my very beginnings. No matter what took place before in my life, I'm alive now, and happy that I was able to get through that time. I realize how much stronger I am for all of it, and grateful to God for allowing me to escape from those demons, so I may go on and inspire myself and others to keep living, dreaming, and maintain their goals. We all must remember that goals and dreams may have to change, however there is always a reason why, and that is why we must remain flexible enough to change if necessary. Change is eminent; instead of worrying, fearing, or wondering why, it is important, and also more productive to face these new challenges with excitement, that we are allowed to forge ahead in unchartered waters, with a new direction and course in life.
Our lives may not go the way we first thought or intended, but like the tides of change, we may happily set our sails high and forge ahead, along with our dreams and goals. As a very wise man once said, “Life is precious, all of life, and one must try to take in as much of it as possible." (Yanni)
Continue to follow your dreams; be prepared to be spontaneous and not let life's detours and changes overwhelm you with surprise; but allow yourself to look forward to your tides of life changing in a positive way. So set your sails, look toward the horizon, smile and greet your new opportunities in life with gusto.
