Someone recently posted a question on the message board asking how the vocalists and musicians prepare on a concert day.
Depending on how far away the hotel is from the venue, everyone is told what time to be on the buses to head to the venue. Usually it is between 3 and 4pm.
Once we arrive at the venue, we all go through the back door and locate the dressing rooms. Fortunately, the crew has always put up signs to direct us to the different important places - Production offices, Promoter's office, Dressing Rooms, and the two most important - Catering and the Stage!
Shortly after arriving, the musicians assemble onstage for soundcheck. The instruments have been carefully transported and unpacked and are waiting by each seat, along with the sheet music on each music stand.
During soundcheck, Yanni makes announcements, talks about any technical issues, cracks the occasional joke, and run through a few songs. The vocalists each sing one of their songs as well.
After soundcheck, the musicians have a couple hours of free time before the show starts. They usually head straight to catering to eat dinner first, then they might take a nap on their bus, check their email, read, return phone calls, and take care of any business they might have with management before getting dressed and made up for the performance.
Wow. Full time jobs I'd say. How fortunate there are some days off thrown in here or there. For some relaxation and fun or at least some extra zzz's. For me packing everyday would be my biggest job We always overpack on trips, I couldn't imagine handling that for months on end.
But how we all appreciate all of the efforts EVERYONE, the performers and road crew put in to bring us this fabulous production. You all, Yanni, the amazing musicians, and the new voices contribute so much to our culture. I am so proud to intoduce this music to a younger generation through my children and to people who are oblivious to these amazing talents. It makes you feel good inside, just like when your listening to the music. Thank you all. Each and everyone Terry
I can appreciate the very hard work that goes into these concerts, & to think that this routine happens almost daily for a very long period of time. I give kudos to the resilience that everyone involved has. Then to top that off, they give such wonderful performances. Cheers to everyone on the tour.
