I live in Tampa Florida and I want to know if Yanni would ever consider a show at the new Florida Ampitheater at the Fairgrounds. I saw him at the St Pete Times Forum but I would love to see him in an outside venue.
Well I would never tell you never Laura. But Yanni doesn't like outdoor venues very much. He does unique ones like the Taj Mahal and Acropolis but the problem with outdoor venues is it's very difficult to control the sound and manage the instruments. So an amphitheater that, and please don't be offended here, is on the ordinary side would probably not happen.
Like I said though, I would not use the word never because Yanni can be very surprising
My first concert was at an "ordinary" outdoor venue and I felt the sound was better than one of the later ones I saw at an indoor venue. Maybe it was 'cause it was my first but it was magical!
Some outdoor venues sound much better to the audience so maybe Yanni will need to learn to part with a little control lol. If the pavilion and grounds are arranged at a theater style angle it should work fine.
I can understand why Yanni prefers not to perform in outdoor venues. First is that weather is often unpredictable as far in advance as he would have to plan his concerts. Second is that the type of concert microphones made today are highly sensitive to all sounds. If he is recording in an outdoor venue, those mics will pick up a lot of background noise which might affect the overall quality of a recording. It would certainly be quite a task to remove such noise from a recording, I would think. Outdoor venues are also less secured than indoor venues. Maintaining tight security in an outdoor venue would be extremely expensive. Thus the cost of such a concert would be greater than that of an indoor venue.
I guess I'm thinking in terms of not just the acoustics involved but the expense as well. All I'm really saying is that I think I understand Yanni's reasons.
