Hi... Seems i can't stop thinking about Acapulco lately and the four Yanni Concerts...with reading everyone's posts I really feel alot of compassion for those that have not seen what Yanni and Ric Wake have created...and a whole lot of compassion for those fans that did not want to see Yanni's music go into this more commercial direction..but wanted to see more of pure Yanni expand and excell purely instrumentaly...I am afraid they are going to be somewhat dissapointed with the whole experience, especially if you only get to see it once....hmmmm now why do I say that... ???
This is solely my own experience, one I will always be grateful for..for so many reasons..on so many plains....
I loved Acapulco and ended up loving the whole New Yanni evolution...but it took a little time and an exotic location to help it along.. ....Also getting to meet the NikiNanaFan Club from Mexico as well as the wonderful YMBers that I had only met here on this board...how much cooler you all were in real life..
First I have to say that what ended up selling me on the whole new Yanni Voices thing was seeing how happy Yanni was night, after night, after night...despite what had to have been exhaustion, apprehension at debuting this whole new thing....I am a Yanni Fan and even if I like or dislike some of his music..that is probably not going to change..the only way I see that changing is finding out that he has known all along how his older fans have been treated since the change over in management inMarch of 2008 and have approved their actions....but I digress...
back to Acapulco....
was I blown away the first time I saw and heard the new music and the voices?...absolutely not...didn't like my seat..and I was exhausted from traveling...things started almost 45 minutes late...and of all things I actually found myself yawning before the intermission...can you imagine yawning at a Yanni Concert
but the second night was different..it was also his birthday and everyone was in a mood of celebration with him and for him...and it was all about Him..even the new music seemed more natual and first night gitters seem to be gone...It was a great concert and that is when I started listening to the Voices...
I knew that I would always hope that Yanni will at another time in his life do something more focused back on just him and his music...but I did realize that he has done something really special with these four young talents....
I actually got to spend some quality time with them and I want you to know that they are each genuially good people..who are very dedicated to this project...they give more than their 100%and I totally appreciate that...
anyway these are just some of my reflections of Acapulco and wanted to share....
if any of the other "fortunate few" would like to share some of their experiences here..I'd love to read them..and if any members have any questions I will try to answer them..
Thanks for this lovely post and for sharing your Beautiful memories with us. If I may say...Yanni gave his Voices a golden opportunity..and they deserve that..They are very talented Young people. I'm sure you had fun there especially after giving Yanni like 10 kisses on behalf of me
I see it is still 88* in Acapulco! My how time flys when you are having so much fun. Sherry you have memories to last a lifetime and thanks for all the stories and pictures you gave us...

Unfortunately I'm already disappointed...sigh...I don't like what I've seen and heard so far...(not only the music ,but many other things..). You know,American fans are very lucky, because they had the chance to see and hear the "original Yanni" on stage(and I'm sure you all have wonderful memories..).Those were amazing concerts. That music was unique and beautiful.I wish I could see that kind of concerts and hear that wonderful instrumental music. But things have changed now...
"Never mind what Yanni use to do" Oh,that's a pity.I can't forget the music that Yanni used to do..Live at the Acropolis,Tribute, the concert at The Royal Albert Hall, the concert in Las Vegas..those were legendary concerts..no dancers,no pop commercial songs sung by singers(only 2 or 3 songs with lyrics)..only pure music..
dear Myky...I am sure that you are going to have a chance to experience of musical magic that can be found at a live Yanni Concert... It may not be the whole concert..and it might just be for only a few moments..but you will eventually hear what makes so many of us continual dedicated fans...
I was listening to the "love songs"Cd today in the car and when To Take To Hold started playing I started singing the lyrics from Yanni and Leslie's remake Before The Night Ends....I thought to myself WOW...wish I could hit the notes as well as she does ...the music really came togeather for me...It was a great Yanni moment...So I guess in a way Acapulco changed many of the ways I look at Yanni's music....
but I also think what I want most for Yanni is for him to experience the happiest moments he has had peforming over and over...when you love what you do..then it's real hard to not be wonderful at it...
and dearest Artist Olive.. , I think the Voices is only one part of Yanni's musical future..from what I heard in Acapulco I do believe we will see him bounce right back after this Voices tour with a pure Yanni tour...I think it is all just going to eventually be the best there ever was...and think you are still so young and will have so many years to enjoy the different evolutions..
ROTFLOL Jackie ....awwwhhhhh can't I talk about it a wittlebit.. ...
there is just so much to remember... ...and I agree with you totally about the Voices....the were so totally awesome...Did it sound like Yanni...???for me...well yeah..I mean he never left the stage..
As he has advertised recently "There are no Rules, nevermind what Yanni used to do"... so needless to say it was concert experiences like no other I have ever been to..Yanni or anyone else..and each night I found myself getting more and more excited about what I was going to see and hear that night...
That's all fine and dandy Sherry but many if not most of us cannot afford to travel and pay the higher ticket prices this time around. So ONE concert will be my max, if any, this time. I'm still hung up on all the vocals and commercialization so I'm afraid I may have to say "told ya so" after only one concert. I'll watch the PBS special in March (hopefully) and maybe that will help but since that was a one-time event with all the extra singers, there's no way the US tour will give us the same opportunities you had. I don't know whether to be upset or jealous!
Hi Samisue, yeah that is what kind of worries me too about the upcoming tour...hope they keep the seats to a resonable price and when they double back people will have the opportunity to catch it more than once....I have to say it is going to be really intresting to see what gets changed this year from the Acapulco Concerts..and yeah I kinda know how you feel..probably the same way I felt about everyone at the Acropolis, and the Taj and some of those other places... ...
